What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is the annual sales event exclusively for Amazon Prime members.

It first began in July 2015 as a way for the retailer to celebrate Prime members during its 20th birthday anniversary.

But it has since evolved into one of the biggest shopping events of the year for Amazon fans.

This year, Prime Day will take place in July, moving away from the October sales period seen in previous years.

During Prime Day, Amazon offers incredible savings across a wide range of categories, including summer beauty essentials, with new deals launching every few minutes.

How to take part in Amazon Prime Day?

The next Prime Day installment for 2025 is just around the corner...

To take advantage of all the Prime Day deals, you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member.

If you’re not already a member, and you’ve never had a Prime account before, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to access the deals.

By activating your free trial you’ll get immediate access to the Prime Day deals, and access to the rest of the Prime membership benefits, which include free shipping, access to Prime Video and Prime Music.

Once you’re a Prime member, simply visit the Prime Day page on the Amazon website to start shopping.

If after 30 days you decide you don’t want the membership, remember to cancel before the end of the trial period or you’ll be charged.

A monthly Prime membership costs £8.99, or you can pay £95 for an annual subscription.

When is the Prime Day 2025?

Amazon has confirmed the next Prime Day event will take place starting from TODAY, 8th July 2025, moving away from the October sale.

The sale will kick off on 8th July, with four days for shoppers to take advantage of discounts and deals across top brands like Dyson, Revlon, Elemis, Cloud Nine, Elizabeth Arden and more.

The highly anticipated event usually spans over 48 hours, but this year Amazon are extending to four days of discounts, with a mix of offers ranging from lightning deals available for a limited time to deals for the duration of the event.

More recently exclusive discounts have been made available to Amazon Prime members before the event starts, shoppers can head to the Amazon deals hub to check out current offers.

What is good to buy during Prime Day?

Prime Day offers discounts on a wide range of products, making it an excellent time to stock up on essentials or treat yourself to something special.

The new dates for Prime Day makes the event the ideal time to top up on all your summer essentials, whether that be SPF-boosting skincare, setting sprays to help your makeup stick during sweaty days, or hydrating hair heroes for the days you’re in and out of a swimming pool.

It is a particularly good time to purchase more expensive items such as beauty electricals or premium skincare and makeup products as often savings are comparable to other seasonal sales throughout the year.

If you’re not looking to splurge on that eye wateringly expensive product from your beauty wish list, Prime Day is a great opportunity to make sure you’re stocked up on all your essentials, from cotton wool to cleansers.

Shoppers can check Amazon pricing over time using platforms like camelcamelcamel or price comparison sites such as Idealo and PriceSpy to ensure they really are getting the best possible deal before taking the plunge.

In terms of beauty buys, the biggest cash savings will be on high-ticket beauty items such as hair straighteners, IPL hair removal machines, electric shavers and toothbrushes.

But the sale is also a great chance to bulk buy everyday beauty essentials, which is more cost-effective in the long run.

In previous years there have been huge savings on premium ad designer beauty names such as Shark beauty, Lancôme, Elizabeth Arden, Kérastase, Colour Wow, Elemis, ghd and OPI.

However, shoppers will also find plenty of everyday skincare and makeup brands like Cerave, BioOil, Maybelline and Olay.

How to find Amazon Prime Day deals?

Finding Amazon Prime Day deals is easier than ever thanks to the dedicated Prime Day page on the Amazon website.

On the deals hub page, you can browse thousands of offers across all categories.

You can also follow Amazon on social media for real-time updates and sneak peeks at upcoming deals.

In my opinion, to make the most of Prime Day you should keep an eye out for deals leading up to the event by browsing the ‘Upcoming Deals’ section on the Amazon website or app.

You can also set reminders with an Alexa device, and add items to personalised Wish Lists or Save For Later lists.

The added bonus is that Alexa will automatically alert you when a deal on your favourite item is live.

When does Amazon Prime Day 2025 end as FOUR days of deals begin?

What is a lightning deal?

There are a variety of different Prime Day deals to look out for during the event.

Alongside ‘deals of the day’, Prime shoppers can get their hands on limited-time offers called lightning deals.

These lightning deals come in limited quantities and once they are sold out they aren’t restocked – making them even more in-demand.

In the past, we have seen Prime Exclusive offers crop up, which only Prime members can take advantage of.

But these offers are often early access deals that get released ahead of the main sale event and often entice non-members to join up for the extra discounts.

On rare occasions, you will find discounts on newer released beauty or makeup items, but they often sell out fast.

It’s worth checking back often and adding your favourite bits to your basket early so you don’t miss out while deals are live.

Some deals only last for a few hours, while others can sell out in minutes if they’re popular, so it pays to act fast.

You might notice different categories go on sale at different times, so it’s worth setting reminders for specific products you want.

Amazon often reveals new “deal of the day” offers across beauty, tech and home, so the selection is always changing.

If you see something you really want at a good price, it’s worth snapping it up before it goes.

To make life simpler, we’ve rounded up the best Prime Day deals for less time scrolling and more time shopping.

Are Amazon Prime deals better than Black Friday?

Prime Day deals can be just as good as Black Friday, and sometimes even better, especially if you’re after beauty and tech buys you want in time for summer.

While it depends on what you’re shopping for, Prime Day is a solid chance to score discounts without waiting until November’s sales rush.

Many beauty and grooming products see strong discounts during Prime Day, and you often get the added bonus of faster delivery, ideal for summer plans.

Black Friday can be great for big purchases and Christmas gifting, but Prime Day lets you shop ahead of the autumn rush.

Some brands use Prime Day to test discounts before Black Friday, so it can be a great time to secure an early bargain.
